AFTERCARE

We bring to you guys two methods on how to heal your tattoos.

Proper tattoo aftercare is essential to protect your skin, preserve color, and ensure your artwork stays sharp for years to come. Today, two main methods dominate modern tattoo healing: moisturizing with tattoo-specific creams and using second skin bandages (like saniderm). Here's a comprehensive guide on what to do - and what to avoid - after getting your tattoo.

What you need:
  • Mild antibacterial or antimicrobial soap (liquid or foam, unscented) - no bar soap, no regular body wash, no scented products

  • Tattoo cream (e.g., aquaphor, bepanthen, or other tattoo-formulated ointments)

  • Unscented body lotion

  • Plastic film wrap or second skin bandage (if applicable)

Aftercare method 1: Plastic wrap / Film

  1. Remove the wrap after 2–4 hours. Do not re-wrap.

  2. Wash gently with lukewarm water and mild antibacterial soap.

  3. Ensure all fluids (blood/plasma) are fully cleaned.

  4. Wash 2–3 times daily for 7-10 days.

  5. Apply a thin layer of tattoo cream 2–3 times daily for 7–10 days.

  6. Once a new layer of skin forms, switch to unscented body lotion to keep the area moisturized. Apply twice daily, gently massaging the lotion into the skin to ensure full absorption.

    • Always wash your hands thoroughly before applying to maintain hygiene and protect the healing tattoo.

Aftercare method 2: Second Skin / Saniderm

  1. Keep the second skin on for 4–5 days.

  2. Remove on day 5–6 under lukewarm running water.

  3. Wash gently, air dry, and apply tattoo cream for 1–1.5 weeks.

  4. Switch to unscented lotion after the cream period.

Remove second skin immediately if:
  • The edges turn red, itchy, or irritated

  • It leaks or tears

If removed early, switch to regular aftercare: Cream -> Lotion

Things to Avoid during Healing

  • Scratching, picking, peeling or the tattoo.

  • Swimming, sauna, hot tubs, or jacuzzis for 2 - 3 weeks

  • Direct sun exposure or tanning

  • Contact sports, excessive exercise, or shaving the area

  • Skin-to-skin contact with pets or others

  • Tight clothing that can rub the tattoo

  • Over-application of cream (skin needs to breathe)

    • Maintain hygiene - Do not touch your tattoo with unsanitary hands

Extra Notes & Tips
  • Ink sacs under the second skin are normal. Avoid ripping or tearing them.

  • Aftercare may vary depending on skin type, tattoo style, and placement. Always follow your artist’s personalized instructions.

  • Avoid heavy alcohol consumption for a minimum of one week post-tattoo
